Robin K. Wiener joined the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. (ISRI), in 1989 to direct the association’s environmental compliance activities. On June 2, 1997, she was appointed ISRI executive director, after serving as association assistant counsel and director of environmental compliance. In March 2000, ISRI’s board conferred on her the title of president. As president of ISRI, Robin leads the Washington, DC based trade association representing the $117 billion recycling industry, representing more than 1,300 companies nationwide and throughout the globe that process, broker and industrially consume valuable recycled commodities (including metal, paper, plastics, textiles, rubber, and electronics). ISRI’s mission is to promote safe, economically sustainable and environmentally responsible recycling through networking, advocacy, and education. ISRI has annual revenues in excess of $16 million and employs a staff of approximately 50.

In addition to her leadership of ISRI, as part of her role representing the recycling industry, Robin has been appointed to the following positions:

  • Member of the Key Industry Associations Committee (KIAC) of ASAE.
  • Serves on the Boards of Keep America Beautiful, the Recycling Partnership, and Jason Learning. In past years, she has served on the Boards of SERI (Sustainable Electronics Recycling International) , the National Association of Manufacturers, and the National Recycling Council (NRC).
  • For over 10 years, Robin served as an appointee on the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Steel (ITAC-12).
  • National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) Advisory Board (2010-2016), appointed Chair of NMVTIS board June of 2014.
  • Past Chair of NAM’s Council of Manufacturing Associations (CMA).


Additionally, Robin is co-author of the RCRA Compliance & Enforcement Manual as part of its Environmental Law Series. She has a JD from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science.
