Hazard Recognition: Fire Safety & Prevention in Recycling

Join ISRI’s safety team for a relevant education and training course focusing on Hazard Recognition: Fire Safety and Prevention. The two-day online class was developed to assist employees, team leads, supervisors, plant managers, and senior leadership in understanding hazards associated with fires in the recycling and materials recovery facilities (MRF) environments. Attendees will learn ways to potentially control these hazards in an attempt to prevent significant fire losses.

All levels of recycling company employees are encouraged to attend. The course is offered for two hours over two consecutive days and co-taught by a member of ISRI’s safety team, alongside a fire professional familiar with recycling facilities.


Fees:

This courseis being offered online to both ReMA and non-ISRI members. It is offered free-of-charge thanks to the generosity of an OSHA Susan Harwood Grant.

Kenn Kunze

IC Fire Prevention LLC

Kenn Kunzeof IC Fire Prevention LLCis a retired Battalion Chief with 30 years of experience in the Combat Division of the Fort Wayne Indiana Fire Department. As an incident commander, Kunze fought to save property and life. He saw the tragedy firsthand. His passion for fire prevention was forged at those incidents. As an NFPA certified Fire Inspector-I, he has worked in the recycling industry since 2015 and has a proven track record of reducing fire risk. Kunze recently assisted in the development of the ReMA Fire Prevention and Management Plan and is working with ReMA members to help them understand and implement this plan.

Dr. Ryan Nolte

Director of Safety Outreach, ISRI

Ryan Nolte is the Director of Safety Outreach for the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI). He has 18 years of experience managing EHS programs in the recycling industry, as well as experience in a b rass foundry, the automobile industry, plastics manufacturing, and battery production. As the director of safety outreach for ISRI, Dr. Nolte assists members with EHS issues, regulatory information, conducts training, and provides guidance on EHS practices.

Dr. Nolte has a MS from Indiana State University in Occupational Health and Safety and a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University.
