ISRI Virtual Congressional Fly-in

Wednesday, October 14, 2020

The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) is holding a Congressional fly-in on Wednesday, October 14th to brief Congress on why recycling is essential to the manufacturing supply chain, for environmental protection, and energy conservation.

Earlier this year, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) within the Department of Homeland Security deemed recycling an essential industry since it supplies vital raw material feedstocks to to the manufacturing sector such as steel, aluminum, copper, plastics, paper, and glass. Without these raw materials that are processed into specification-grade commodities, manufacturing would not be able to operate.

ISRI members will also explain to Congress the misperception of recycling as a waste management function rather than a vital link in the manufacturing supply chain and why these specification-grade commodities are not solid waste.
