The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries to Host its 25th Annual Convention & Exposition

WASHINGTON – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Voice of the Recycling Industry™, will host the 2013 ReMA Convention and Exposition  April 9 -13 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The association marks its 25th annual convention this year, an event that has become the largest convention of its kind, bringing together more than 5,000 scrap recycling professionals, industry experts and manufacturers from 45 countries to discuss the latest trends, challenges and solutions in the global scrap recycling business.

Guests of the 2013 ReMA Convention & Exposition will join workshops, sessions and interactive panels that examine today’s issues.  Most workshops are designed to be recycling-specific, but not commodity specific, helping companies to operate smarter, safer and more profitable businesses.  But the three-days of workshop programming also include commodity-specific “spotlights” that feature expert analysts giving their opinions on local and global commodity markets.

This year, ReMA will launch the ReMA Transportation Safety Awards presentation recognizing member companies with the safest fleets and awarding its first-ever “Driver of the Year” award.

Other highlights include keynote speakers Former Anchor and Managing Editor of NBC Nightly News, Tom Brokaw and 12-time Olympic Medalist Dara Torres on Saturday, April 13. The opening session will feature Gov. Ed Rendell (D-PA) and Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS) who will navigate the present political climate and the path for the future.

“Scrap recycling is a nearly $100 billion industry, and we are pleased to provide the 5,000 attendees from around the world the latest research, trends and innovation in the industry,” said Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “We are thrilled to celebrate 25 years of the ReMA Convention.”

Throughout the convention, there will be a major focus on responsible recycling and certification. The Recycling Industry Operating Standard (RIOS)™ certification demonstrates compliance to a management system that is the highest operating requirements for quality commodity production, environmental protections and health and safety standards. R2/RIOS™ certification combines the Responsible Recycling (R2) certification, designed specifically for electronics recyclers by a consortium led by the EPA, with the industry-designed RIOS™ management system.
