Washington, DC – The Recycling Research Foundation (RRF), a nonprofit organization closely associated with the Institute for Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), has announced the creation of the Veterans’ Scholarship Program. The scholarship, to be awarded annually, provides up to $8,000 over four years to a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. “The recycling industry is proud to support our nation’s veterans, many of whom risked their lives to defend our freedom,” said Robin Wiener, ReMA president. “RFF established the veterans’ scholarship to assist veterans seeking a college education but who may not have the means through existing government and scholarship aid. It is our way of saying thank you to the members of our Armed Forces.” Applicants must be U.S. citizens who have served a minimum of two years active duty or four years in the military, and have been honorably discharged from service. The RRF scholarship provides $2,000 per year, up to four years, towards an undergraduate degree program at an accredited educational institution. The deadline to apply for this year’s scholarship is July 1, 2013. RFF’s mission is to “promote the art and science of scrap processing and recycling through research, sponsorships, technical assistance, and educational programs for the purpose of advancing the industry.” Since 2002, the Foundation has awarded more than $790,000 in scholarships to more than 600 students.
