Additionally, Jack received instructions on how to operate a material handler, a wire stripper and chopper and went through the process of selling scrap with his father watching on. The Senator received a briefing on ScrapTheftAlert.com, the proposed reporting system being developed in conjunction with ReMA and how the scrap recycling industry is helping law enforcement combat metals theft. In attendance were local sheriffs who could attest to All Scrap's commitment. As part of Jack's training, he was issued all the proper safety equipment including a monogrammed hard hat. While Jack learned about the science of identifying and processing scrap materials and the math involved in purchasing and selling various types of scrap, his father was briefed on the Jason Learning initiative. Jack particularly enjoyed using the metal analyzer while learning about alloys. Following the demonstrations and tour, Senator Vitter fielded several questions but relied on Jack to answer any "technical" questions. The Senator did commit to helping to reauthorize the state's metals theft law when it sunsets in a few years, especially if he is elected Governor. Many thanks to the Costanza family for all the preparations and hosting this event.
