ReMA Addresses National Sheriffs Association

Jan 28, 2015, 20:32 PM by SPAN
Last week, ISRI addressed the National Sheriffs Association’s Committee on Crime Victim Services on our industry’s efforts to help combat metals theft and aide law enforcement. The focus of this committee is to help the victims of various crimes ranging from domestic violence to terrorism.

ISRI concurred with the Sheriffs that metals theft is not a victimless crime and described how the industry is helping both law enforcement catch the thieves and get the victim’s property back to them, if at all possible. ReMA reminded the sheriffs that the owners and employees of the scrap recycling industry also live in the community and we share their concerns and commitments to stop these crimes. ReMA also asked the sheriffs for their help in both signing up and using ScrapTheftAlert.com and spreading the word about this useful tool. As in past meetings with law enforcement, ReMA wants the ScrapTheftAlert.com system to be helpful for law enforcement and victims to be an effective and efficient way to communicate. We also need your help to spread the word to your local law enforcement departments about ScrapTheftAlert.com and your willingness to help them.
