United Metals, Inc., Marianna, FL
Please Note that ReMA Will Host a Conference Call on January 29, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. ET. If you would like to participate in the conference call please click here to RSVP and you will be sent the dial-in number and password for the call. When you RSVP, please be certain to include the following information: Your Name, Your Company’s Name, the City in Which Your Company is Located, Your Email Address, and Your Telephone Number
Anybody that receives a 104 (e) letter must respond to EPA or face significant penalties for not doing so. It is frequently the case that if someone cannot respond within the stated deadline (30 days in this instance) that EPA will grant an extension.
This round of letters seeks information regarding the United Metals, Inc. Superfund site in Marianna, FL, which was a battery breaking operation. The battery breaking operations took place at the site from 1979 to 1991, which means that most people who received the 104 (e) letter do not have records readily available, if at all. Furthermore, we have yet to speak with anyone who even recognizes the name of the company in that location. It is very possible that the batteries were bought in “blind transactions” where a broker directed the shipping company to deliver them to the United Metals, Inc. site after the batteries left the recycler’s facility.
If you would like to learn more about Superfund, how it can affect you, the meaning of the 104 (e) letter, what type of response is required, and how the Superfund Recycling Equity Act (SREA) may protect you from any potential liability at this site, please join the call on Thursday January 29, 2015.
