Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Wins Three Telly Awards for Industry Education Videos

Mar 9, 2015, 12:35 PM by Mark Carpenter
(Washington, DC) – The Telly Awards has named the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) as a Bronze winner in three categories for two of its recent educational videos: The Shredder Story: A Revolution in Recycling and The Impact of the Recycling Industry. With nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this is truly an honor.

“These videos, along with others currently in production, serve as an important resource in educating the public on the many environmental and economic benefits of recycling,” said Bob Ensinger, vice president of communications and marketing at ISRI. “It is an honor to be recognized with these Telly Awards, but the biggest reward is being able to reach a wider audience in promoting a $90 billion job-creating industry that saves energy and preserves natural resources.”

Changing the face of the industrial economy, the shredder is an innovation not unlike the printing press, the internal combustion engine, or the personal computer that has revolutionized the recycling industry, and along with it the steel manufacturing and foundry industries. The Shredder Story: A Revolution in Recycling captures this in a thirteen-and-a-half-minute piece depicting how industrial shredders work and the impact they have made in the recycling industry. The video won in the category of Public Relations

The Impact of the Recycling Industry, which won in the categories of Education and Green/Eco-Friendly, details the overall impact of the entire industry. It is a visual presentation of the ReMA Scrap Yearbook, ISRI's jobs and economic impact study, and other ReMA resources that are designed to educate people on the role that the recycling industry plays in their daily lives and beyond.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, executive director of the Telly Awards. “ISRI’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

For its 36th season, The Telly Awards once again joined forces with YouTube to give the public the power to view and rate videos submitted as part of the People’s Telly Awards. In addition to recognition from the Silver Telly Council, the judging panel that selects the Telly Awards winners, the Internet community helps decide the People’s Telly Awards winners.

A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10 percent of entries are chosen as Winners of the Silver Telly, our highest honor. Approximately 25 percent of entries are chosen as Winners of the Bronze Telly.
