New position demonstrates association’s commitment to industry safety
(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) announced today the hiring of Therese (Terry) Cirone for the newly created position of Vice President of Safety, charged with leading all of ISRI’s safety efforts. Ms. Cirone’s responsibilities will include managing all elements of ISRI’s safety program, providing safety guidance to members, serving as a liaison with OSHA, and working with ISRI’s team of safety professionals to strengthen and develop new tools and resources for members to enhance their safety programs.
“Terry is a proven safety professional that brings with her more than 30 years of experience in developing and implementing the types of safety resources and protocols that will benefit ISRI members,” said Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “As demonstrated by creating the new position of vice president of safety, ReMA has worked hard over the last year and a half to emphasize that safety is a core value of the recycling industry. Terry shares in that commitment. Having worked in the recycling industry in the past, in addition to her many other accomplishments, she will bring added value and leadership to our already extensive safety outreach programming.”
Terry is looking forward to working with the ReMA safety team to assist the membership in enhancing safety cultures and encouraging safety leadership throughout the organization.
Prior to joining ReMA Terry was the Vice President of Health, Environment, Safety and Security (HESS) at the Chlorine Institute (CI). Her primary responsibilities included providing leadership and support for the Health and Safety Team, the Environment and Security Team, and associated issues and concerns in these areas along with developing guidelines, safety and health alerts, projects, regulatory updates and training seminars/workshops.
Before coming to the DC area Terry held EHS leadership positions within various industries including RSR Corporation - a lead-recycling operation (and ReMA member) - Diamond Shamrock Chemical Company/Occidental Chemical Corporation and Halliburton Energy Services.
Ms. Cirone has a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a law degree from the South Texas College of Law, Houston. She is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Environmental Auditor, and Registered Environmental Manager.
