(Washington, DC) – Following approval by ISRI’s Nonferrous Division in November 2017, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) Board of Directors will consider changes to existing nonferrous specifications for shredded electric motors (SHELMO) and wheel weights (ROPES) at its Winter Meeting on February 1. These specification changes are intended to more accurately reflect the nonferrous scrap commodities currently being traded in the marketplace.
The proposed modifications would:
1) Change the maximum allowable amount of aluminum-wound material in the SHELMO specification from 10 percent to 5 percent; and
2) Change the ROPES specification title from “Wheel Weights” to “Lead Wheel Weights.”
At the Board of Directors meeting, the Board may choose to adopt, amend, or reject the recommendations of the Division or table them pending further review. More information about the rules governing the procedures from the addition, amendment, or withdrawal of ISRI’s scrap specifications can be found in the Scrap Specifications Circular.
