Money raised funds for scholarships and industry research
(Washington, DC) – As part of its continuous effort to provide funds for college students and industry research, The Recycling Research Foundation (RRF) recently announced it raised a record amount of nearly $40,000 through its annual silent auction. RRF, a nonprofit closely associated with the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), promotes the art and science of scrap processing and recycling through the research, sponsorships, technical assistance, and educational programs for the purpose of advancing the industry. “The record number of donations and money raised for the Recycling Research Foundation, illustrates the generosity of those that make up the recycling community,” said Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “These fund will contribute to the future of the industry, both through valuable research that could lead to technological breakthroughs and market developments, and by preparing the next generations of industry leaders. A tremendous thank you goes to all those who supported the cause through donations, and bidding on the many items available.”
There was a record 75 items donated to the auction this year which took place during ISRI’s annual convention and exposition in Las Vegas. Donations ranged from recycled scrap metal sculptures, to photography sessions, to electronic accessories. An Eriez SMART Metal Loss Monitor received the highest single bid at $12,000. The money raised will help fund higher-education initiatives, including RRF’s National Foundation Scholarships and National Veterans Stipend. The National Foundation Scholarship is a $5,000 national scholarship aimed to support graduates students participating in a degree program that is applicable to the scrap recycling industry. The National Veterans Stipend is a stipend of up to $8,000 created for those who have served in the U.S. armed forces. The stipend covers $2,000 per year and is renewable for up to 4 years. The deadline for applying for both programs for the coming year is June 1, 2018. RRF would like to give a special thanks to those who donated to the auction and helped carry on the Foundation’s mission, including:
