India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) announced on February 25 that a seventh port – Mundra Port in the State of Gujarat – has been approved as a port of entry for metallic scrap to be imported without a Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate(PSIC) from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the European Union.
The announcement follows the government’s move last year to approve six ports that installed radiation detection equipment and were thus exempted from the PSIC. Those ports are Chennai, Tuticorin, Kandla, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mumbai and Krishnapatnam.
An additional eight ports are undergoing installation and testing of radiation detection equipment, and we will inform members when they have been approved for a PSIC exemption.
