Chairman’s Message

Aug 12, 2019, 09:52 AM by Nonferrous Beat

AndyWahlThis edition of ISRI’s Nonferrous Beat comes at a time of heightened scrap market uncertainty given the shifting global landscape on trade, manufacturing, and recycling. These market uncertainties only emphasize the value of ReMA membership and the critical advocacy, education, and networking opportunities that ReMA provides.

ISRI has been at the forefront of advocating on behalf of scrap processors, brokers, and exporters and provides our members with reliable and up-to-date information about the changes in trade policy in China, the United States, and around the world. Just as importantly, ReMA provides a forum to discuss current market trends and the policy decisions that will affect how you buy and sell your products going forward.

To that end, I would highly recommend that you attend the ISRI 2019 Commodity Roundtables Forum to be held in Chicago from September 11-13, 2019 where you will get the latest information on nonferrous and ferrous metal market developments. As China has significantly restricted the flow of scrap imports, the focus has increasingly turned to other Asian markets in recent years. But there is tremendous growth potential in other regions of the world as well, including here in North America. The experts at the Commodity Roundtables Forum will identify and discuss where the greatest opportunities for scrap market growth will occur both around the world and in markets closer to home.

I would also like to encourage you to get active with ReMA as we are always looking for talented new leaders. Our next ReMA Fall Board & Governance Meetings will be held from October 15-17, 2019, in Portland, Oregon. I hope to see you in both Chicago and in Portland, and if you have any questions in the meantime about ISRI’s nonferrous division, event programming, specifications, or other issues, please don’t hesitate to contact either myself of our nonferrous division liaison Joe Pickard

Sincerely,

Andy Wahl
Nonferrous Division Chair
