Infectious Disease Outbreak Response Plans

Apr 3, 2020, 16:31 PM by EHS Update

The ReMA EHS staff is currently reviewing several infectious disease response plans. One plan was developed by JJ Keller and is available through the KellerOnline system. The Keller plan closely follows the OSHA/HHS joint publication Guidance on Preparing Workplaces for COVID-19. Other plans have been developed by different organizations and tailored to specific settings such as construction.

While OSHA does not have a specific standard to address outbreaks such as COVID-19 the agency has implied that the General Duty Clause could be used to address issues related to the coronavirus. OSHA has suggested that the exposure control standard, a.k.a. Blood-Borne Pathogen Standard could be used as a guide in developing a plan.

This will be a fast-moving review and anyone interested in participating should contact the EHS department.
