May 2020 Employment Situation Report
Manufacturing PMI Last week’s manufacturing PMI report also showed signs of improving (or at least less bad) manufacturing sector conditions. The Institute for Supply Management reports their Purchasing Managers Index increased by 1.6 points to 43.1 in May. Timothy R. Fiore, Chair of the ISM’s Manufacturing Business Survey Committee, reports ““The coronavirus pandemic impacted all manufacturing sectors for the third straight month. May appears to be a transition month, as many panelists and their suppliers returned to work late in the month. However, demand remains uncertain, likely impacting inventories, customer inventories, employment, imports and backlog of orders.
