In the recycling world, handling tires involves strength and movement with your body. Handling them safely requires attention to proper lifting techniques. To avoid back, knee, and hand injuries it is important to work with employees on proper lifting and handling techniques. Of course, the best possible way to avoid any issues that may lead to an injury is to eliminate the hazard through engineering controls. This means altering the job task to eliminate the hazardous motion and/or change the position of the object in relation to the worker’s body – such as adjusting the height of a pallet or shelf. Other ways and areas of consideration to avoid strains and injuries can be found online.
