America Recycles Day Lauds Recycling’s Essential Role

Nov 13, 2020, 13:58 PM by Rachel Bookman

(Washington, DC) - Each November 15, people come together to celebrate America Recycles Day and focus on the might of the U.S. recycling industry. The countless benefits of which include the industry’s $110 billion economic impact, more than 531,000 jobs created, and reduction in greenhouse gases. The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Voice of the Recycling Industry™, is using this year’s America Recycles Day as an opportunity to showcase the essential role of recycling in the U.S. economy, environment, education, innovation, manufacturing, and beyond.

“Each year America Recycles Day provides us with an opportunity to recognize the critically essential role recycling plays in our everyday lives, as well as celebrate the men and women who are devoted to ensuring the industry remains strong,” said ReMA President Robin Wiener. “We encourage every individual to take a moment on this day to learn more about the strength of the industry and its significant impact on everything from the products we consume to the planet we call home.”

The U.S. scrap recycling industry provides the high value, environmentally friendly, and energy saving raw materials that feed critical U.S. manufacturing operations. As the first link in the manufacturing supply chain, scrap recycling has been integral to the U.S. economy, job creation, resource sustainability, energy savings, and global trade.

Recycling is a vital step towards building a sustainable future. It conserves our limited natural resources and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by significantly saving the amount of energy needed to manufacture the products that we buy, build, and use every day. The energy saved by recycling may then be used for other purposes, such as heating our homes and powering our automobiles.

Through recycling, people of all ages can participate in sustainable development that demonstrates their compassion and love for the planet and the resources shared by all. On America Recycles Day, ReMA emphasizes the importance of recycling as part of daily life, and encourages all to learn more about recycling and the industry.

America Recycles Day is Sunday, November 15. Events highlighting recycling and innovation will be taking place throughout the week.
