Third-Generation Facility Selected as Part of Governor’s Statewide Small Business Tour
(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Voice of the Recycling Industry™, announced that ReMA member Comal Iron & Metals in New Braunfels, Texas hosted Texas Governor Greg Abbott for a site visit on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022. The Comal County recycling business, owned by Marcie and Roger Rodriguez, was part of the governor’s statewide small business tour to provide insights into small business concerns and operations in the state.
“Comal Iron and Metals is excited to welcome Gov. Abbott to our recycled materials facility this week,” said owner Marcie Rodriguez. “Recycling sustains manufacturing in Texas and the world, and we’re proud to show the governor how our facility is doing its part to provide Texans with products we use every day.”
Comal is a third generation, international recycling business founded in 1969 by Pasqual Rodriguez. The business is a member of the Gulf Coast Region of ISRI. The governor’s visit coincides with the annual recognition of Manufacturing Day, Oct. 7. Held annually on the first Friday in October with events that continue throughout the month, Manufacturing Day helps show the reality of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers, and community leaders.
Manufacturing Day highlights employment and opportunities within America’s manufacturing sector, of which recycling plays a critical role. Every year, recycling facilities manufacture more than 130 million metric tons of materials that are used in our daily lives to help preserve raw materials and protect the environment.
This two-minute ReMA video provides information on every-day products made from recycled materials.
