Creative Entries from Across the Country Focus on the Importance of Recycling
(April 18, 2023, Washington, D.C.)– ReMA and JASON Learning presented the winners of the 2022-2023 Youth Video and Poster contest today at the organization’s ISRI2023 Convention and Exposition. Contestants in grades K-12 submitted original posters or videos that communicated one central theme –Recycling: The Key to Sustainability.
ISRI’s Peter Van Houten presents Barbie Lin with the ReMA and JASON Learning Poster Contest award. “It’s exciting to see the ingenuity and creativity of this year’s Youth Video and Poster contest entries, and the excellence exhibited in presenting the message of recycling as the key to sustainability,” said ReMA President Robin Wiener. “By combining STEM and elements of the recycled materials industry, winners highlighted the importance of recycling to the continuation of a resilient planet.”
This year’s Poster Contest Winner is Barbie Lin, an 8th grade student at Myra S. Barnes Intermediate School 24 in Staten Island, N.Y. Lin’s teacher is Michele Corio.
ISRI’s Peter Van Houten presentsBailey Maltese, Yaesung Kim, and Ashvin Saini with the ReMA and Jason Learning Video Contest award. The Video Contest Winners are on Team Blue Steel, which consists of Bailey Maltese, Yaesung Kim, and Ashvin Saini, who are fifth graders at Willow Springs Elementary in Fairfax, Va. Team Blue Steel’s teacher is Logan Williams.
"JASON Learning is proud to support the ReMA Youth Recycling Contest, which showcases the incredible work of students across the country who have dedicated themselves to learning about sustainability and recycling,” said Dr. Eleanor Smalley, President and CEO of JASON Learning. “Although five states are represented from the finalists, we had over 150 entries from across 11 states: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. It takes a lot of effort to participate in this contest, and we are thrilled to see so many educators using our open-source recycling curriculumto inspire the next generation of environmental leaders."
ISRI partners withJASON Learningannually on the contest for grades K-12 that features recycling-related themes.
