ISRI Celebrates National Manufacturing Day 2023
Recycled Materials Industry is Essential to Manufacturing and Engaging the Workforce of the Future
(October 6, 2023 – Washington, D.C.) ISRI, the "Voice of the Recycled Materials Industry™,” marks National Manufacturing Day (MFG), October 6, 2023, by highlighting how the recycled materials industry is essential to manufacturing and engaging with the workforce of the future.
“ISRI is celebrating National Manufacturing Day by focusing on inspiring the next generation of the recycled materials industry, positively shifting perceptions of the industry and building our workforce of the future,” said ReMA President Robin Weiner. “Our industry plays a pivotal role in the manufacturing process by providing a renewable source of high-quality materials of everyday items, consumer goods and essential infrastructure we all need.”
More than 70 percent of materials processed by the recycled materials industry annually are used in American manufacturing. Recycled materials are also essential for other industries to achieve their sustainability and decarbonization goals.
The recycled materials industry supports more than half a million jobs in the United States and is continually recruiting and cultivating a diverse workforce. ReMA created a youth education curriculum and outreach program, Pathways, to provide a preview into the work of the recycled materials industry and encourage students to consider the many career paths within the industry to equip tomorrow’s workforce beginning today.
Created by the National Association of Manufacturers’ nonprofit workforce development organization, the Manufacturing Institute, MFG Day kicks off a month-long effort. MFG Day is recognized annually on the first Friday of October.
