Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) backs a long-term funding fix for the Highway fund, since Congress has had to periodically inject general fund money into the highway fund since 2008 to supplement the increasingly inadequate gas tax revenue. Accordingly, some Members from both parties in Congress have discussed an increase in the gas tax with gas prices low, despite resistance from GOP leaders.
