Earlier this month, ISRI raised awareness on Capitol Hill for Design for Recycling® (DfR) and the DfR Award when Congressman Bob Dold (R-IL) gave a 1-minute speech on the House Floor recognizing 2015 DfR Award Winner LG Electronics for its efforts by designing its televisions to be recycled at the end of their useful lifecycle.
LG's facilities located in Mr. Dold's district were largely responsible for the development and manufacture of these televisions.
In his Floor speech, Congressman Dold explained why recycling is so important for manufacturing as well as protecting the environment and conserving natural resources calling out the various products that are routinely recycled by ReMA members such as cars, appliances, tires, and of course, televisions. It was very exciting to have LG's Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications John Taylor present in the House Gallery to witness Mr. Dold's statement about their achievement. We also had the opportunity to meet with Senator Mark Kirk's (R-IL) staff to explain the significance of LG's achievement and ISRI's efforts to promote responsible recycling of electronics around the world. In addition, ReMA had the opportunity to visit with the House Recycling Caucus Co-Chairs John Shimkus (R-IL) and Frank Pallone (D-NJ) to recognize LG's achievement.
