West Coast Ports Resume Operations
After nearly 10 months of disruptions at the 20 West Coast ports, the various union memberships overwhelmingly ratified a new 5-year agreement.
Other ports in the United States will be undergoing similar labor negotiations soon and the hope is to avoid a similar scenario since the West Coast ports disruption is estimated to have caused a nearly 1 percent decline in the nation’s GDP. ReMA participated in a large multi-association coalition lobbying Congress, the Pacific Maritime Association, and the unions to resume operations as quickly as possibly pointing out the disruptions were very costly and problematic for the scrap industry.
