According to figures from the American Forest & Paper Association, production of paper and paperboard in the United States during Jan-Sep 2019 was down 4.5% to 56 million tons as paper production declined 5.9% and paperboard output fell 3.8% year-on-year. Among the major paper products, uncoated freesheet production dropped 10.3% for the year-to-date, followed by reduced output of coated paper (-8.4%) and unbleached packaging paper (-8.4%), while tissue paper production was flat (0.0%). As for board production, significant declines were registered in the production of linerboard (-6.1%), SBS boxboard (-4.3%), and corrugated medium (-1.9%), according to the AF&PA.
