ReMA Bolsters Safety, Legal and Membership Departments with New Hires, Staff Moves

Washington, D.C. – Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. (ISRI), President Robin Wiener today announced that new hires and staffing changes at ReMA will bolster ISRI’s safety, legal and membership departments.

Commodor Hall has been brought on board to serve as ISRI’s new Transportation Safety Manager. Hall joins ReMA after 13 years serving as both a Regional Safety Manager and Senior Safety Specialist for the FedEx Corporation in Chicago, Illinois. Hall brings to ReMA a wealth of real-life safety experience having been previously charged with occupational and industrial safety entailing vehicle, facility and employee safety for air ramp, truck ramp, domestic ground stations and vehicle maintenance facilities at FedEx.  Additionally, Hall was responsible for monitoring performance and ensuring effectiveness of station safety continuous improvement teams and providing safety support for 2,300 employees/drivers spread across FedEx facilities.

“In the scrap recycling industry, safety is one of the most critical priorities,” said ReMA Director of Safety John Gilstrap. “Commodor has an impressive background in both the transportation and safety industries that will be of immeasurable benefit to our members as we help them best train their employees and drivers to do their jobs safely, or not at all.”

Hall also has previously served as the Director of Safety/Human Resources at Robert Hansen Trucking of Delevan, Wisconsin; Corporate Director of Safety at ATC Leasing company of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Safety Supervisor at Werner Enterprises of Springfield, Ohio; Driver at J.B. Hunt Transportation’s Ohio Terminal; and as a Commissioned State Trooper of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Hall is a Graduate of the Columbia College of Missouri.

Tom Casey also joined ReMA as Deputy General Counsel. Casey, a graduate of Widener University School of Law and James Madison University, will be responsible for legal matters pertaining to contracts, trademarks, copyrights, corporate governance and compliance.

“The ReMA legal team will benefit greatly from Tom’s expertise and knowledge,” said Scott Horne, ReMA General Counsel and Vice President of Government Relations. “The U.S. scrap recycling industry is dealing with an increasingly complicated legal environment with shifting regulations and compliance standards; ISRI’s current roster of three attorneys has been struggling to keep up with ISRI’s transactional legal work while providing members the top flight assistance they need.  Tom’s focus will be primarily on ISRI’s legal needs freeing up the other members of our legal team to focus on member assistance.”

Danielle Waterfield will continue to handle legal matters for the ReMA Chapters.

Casey has a wide range of experience having served most recently at the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) where he was the Deputy General Counsel and had direct responsibility for intellectual property, transactional matters, contracts, licenses, leases, corporate governance and compliance and business litigation. Prior to his tenure at AFBF, he was an Anne Arundel County Assistant State’s Attorney and an Associate at Baltimore-based Shapiro, Sher, Guinot & Sandler.

Additionally, two current members of the ReMA staff are shifting responsibilities.

Jonathan Levy is moving into a new role at ReMA as Director of Member Services. Levy has previously worked with ReMA members focusing on paper, tire/rubber or plastics areas. In his new position, he will be coordinating a variety of member services including education and training, webinars and affinity programs and will work to develop a new “white-collar” training program for the scrap industry. . Levy will continue to serve as liaison and key contact for ISRI’s Tire/Rubber and Paper Stock Industries chapters as well as work to develop and grow plastics recycling efforts.

Additionally, Waterfield, ISRI’s Assistant Counsel and Director of Government Relations, will be taking over full responsibility for ISRI’s state and local programs, which provides advice and counseling to chapters and individual members on legislation and regulation that affects the scrap recycling industry. Waterfield was previously working on state and local matters that required legal or strategic advice. Going forward, she will be working more closely with the chapters in the development of their legislative strategies and build upon her recent efforts to have ReMA become more actively engaged in the National Conference of State Legislatures, Counsel of State Governments and other state-related organizations. ISRI’s State Monitoring Program will continue to be administered by Jonathan Levy until a new administrator is in place.
