Washington, DC – During the 2013 Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) Convention, the association which serves as the Voice of the Recycling Industry TM elected three new directors to its board. The new Directors-At-Large, serving two-year terms ending in 2015, are Gary Champlin of Champlin Tire Recycling, Michael Lewis of Lewis Salvage Corporation, and Andy Wahl of Newell Recycling.
“I congratulate and welcome the three new Directors-At-Large to the ReMA Board and look forward to working with them to help further advance the recycling industry,” said Jerry Simms, chair of ISRI’s Board of Directors. “I am sure that their individual backgrounds and expertise in ReMA governance will play important roles in further advancing the recycling industry as an economic driver and environmental steward.”
Gary Champlin has served as General Manager of
Champlin Tire Recycling Inc. (CTRI) in
Concordia, Kansas since 1992. CTRI, a family owned and operated business, processes more than four million tires annually in a six-state region. Gary’s family has been in the tire business for 63 years and tire recycling for 21 years. ReMA has been a big part of the family’s success professionally, and Gary has developed many long-term relationships with other members as a result. He and his wife Debra have six children and four grandchildren.
Michael Lewis, a fourth generation processor, is the President of
Lewis Salvage Corporation located in
Warsaw, Indiana. Lewis Salvage processes scrap iron, metals and paper for mill and foundry consumption. Lewis Salvage handles over 50,000 ton of ferrous scrap and 2 million pounds of non-ferrous per year. Mike has served as Indiana Chapter President. He has also served on ReMA National as an Executive Committee Member, and is currently a member of the Metals Theft Working Group and the Ferrous Division Committee. Mike and his wife, Rita, have three children and a grandson.
Andy Wahl is the Vice President of the Non Ferrous Division, media plant operations, and manager of nonferrous sales for
Newell Recycling in
East Point, Georgia. He joined the company in 1997, and succeeded in increasing its production and efficiency to record levels. Andy serves as chair of ISRI’s Membership Committee, as well as on the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) in Brussels, Belgium. He previously held the position of chair on ISRI’s Trade Committee. Andy was born in Viernheim, Germany, and now lives in Atlanta with his wife and two children.
The convention held April 9 -13 in Orlando, Florida.
