(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has released its agenda for the Fall ReMA Safety & Environmental Council (ISEC) Meeting to be held November 5-7, 2013, in St. Louis at the Drury Plaza Hotel. The meeting is structured to provide a forum where safety issues are discussed openly and thoroughly among safety professionals employed by ReMA members.

“As an industry we must continually strive to improve our safety record,” said Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “Serving as the industry leader in providing safety guidelines and training, it is important that ReMA keeps raising the bar and setting new standards for its members. The ISEC meetings are an opportunity for members to receive the latest safety training, exchange best practices, obtain a refresher on long-standing procedures, and discuss with colleagues new challenges all with an eye toward creating the safest work environment for employees.”

Featured topics include: safe handling of airbag systems, radiation, and a train-the-trainer session on accident investigation. The meeting will feature Dr. James K. Walsh, executive director and senior scientist of the Sleep Medicine and Research Center. A world-renowned expert on sleep disorders, Dr. Walsh has authored more than 190 scientific manuscripts and chapters. His primary research interests include insomnia, clinical pharmacology, shift work, and the relationship of sleep and behavior. He will present the causes, diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea, including the physical and psychological consequences of when it goes untreated. Dr. Walsh will present data on how this effects the workforce, including drowsy driving risks, and liability and lost productivity for the employer.

Another feature presentation, Airbags: What You Don’t Know Can Kill You and Your Business, by Peter Byrne, president of Crashboxx Telematics will focus on the training solutions for handling airbags. Attendees who have specific questions about how to safely work with airbags, can submit them in advance to Anne Marie Horvath and Mr. Byrne will address them during his presentation.

ISEC is an ISRI member-only event. Attendees may register through the ISRI website. The conference registration fee is $235, which includes all lunches and a cocktail reception.

A limited number of rooms have been reserved for conference participants at $101/night plus tax for a single or double. Rooms may be reserved online or by calling 800-378-7946.
