ReMA Scrap Yearbook 2013 Now Available in Spanish and Chinese

Publication provides the most in-depth view of the industry to date

(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) today announced that its second annual ISRI Scrap Yearbook is now available in Spanish and Chinese. The yearbook provides the most comprehensive information and statistical look at U.S. scrap recycling, as well as more in-depth information about the industry as a whole, how it has evolved and operates and the scope of economic and environmental benefits recycling provides.

“Recycling is a global industry and the release of the yearbook in multiple languages reflects the needs of our members and stakeholders worldwide,” said Joe Pickard, ISRI’s chief economist. “The ReMA Scrap Yearbook 2013 shows in detail how the industry responded to the year’s challenges and what that means for the future. It contains a wealth of information that stands to benefit both industry veterans and those just starting out.”

2012 statistical highlights from the Yearbook include:

  • 135 million tons of scrap metal, paper, plastics, electronics textiles, glass and rubber processed;
  • 47 million metric tons of scrap commodities valued at nearly $28 billion exported to 160 countries;
  • Nearly 463,000 directly and indirectly supported by the industry;
  • More than $87 billion in economic activity generated; and
  • More than $10 billion in federal, state and local tax revenue collected.

In addition, the Yearbook breaks down data by commodity and provides historical information on production, recovery and consumption; scrap trade flows; and scrap prices indexes.

“New this year, the Scrap Yearbook contains expanded information about global scrap flows, fast-growing segments of the industry such as electronics, and more,” said Pickard. “Readers will not only walk away with a better understanding of how the scrap industry functions, but also what scrap is, where it comes from, how it is processed, and who uses it.”

Copies of the Yearbook in English may be purchased online for a member rate of $4.95 or non-member rate of $14.95. Spanish and Chinese versions can be purchased by calling (202) 662-8500.

Members of the media may contact Mark Carpenter for a complimentary copy in either language.
