ReMA Announces Newest Board Members

Brenner and Miller named directors-at-large

(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Voice of the Recycling IndustryTM, recently named Paul Brenner of Brenner Recycling (Hazleton, PA) and Scott Miller of Sims Metal Management (New York, NY) to its Board of Directors. Both will serve as directors-at-large through the 2016 term.

“The addition of Paul and Scott to ISRI’s Board of Directors brings added leadership and expertise that will help lead our organization over the next two years and beyond,” said Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “They will add to the variety of backgrounds and perspectives already on the Board, ensuring that all of our members are well-represented. I look forward to working with them as they help to shape the future of the recycling industry.”

About the new board members:

Paul Brenner, a third generation scrap dealer, is President of Brenner Recycling. Paul has served as Mid-Atlantic Chapter President, as well as Chairman of Nasco-op. He also served as Co-Chair of ReMA Pac Council. Currently Paul is the Chairman of ReMA Safety and Environmental Council (ISEC). Paul has served on various committees over the years including the Research Recycling Council, Convention Committee, Education & Training and Safety & Ops committees.

Scott Miller is Chief Corporate Counsel (Safety, Health, Environment, and Community (SHEC) & Compliance) for Sims Metal Management (SMM), having joined SMM as legal counsel and environmental manager in 1997. Sims Metal Management is the world’s largest listed metals and electronics recycler, with over 250 locations and more than 6,000 employees on five continents. In his role, Mr. Miller is responsible for managing a variety of legal, litigation, legislative, compliance, sustainability, communications and SHEC matters for SMM, both domestically and globally. Prior to his election to the Board of Directors, Mr. Miller has been an active participant in ISRI, serving and having served in a leadership or active role on a range of committees, task forces and working groups addressing issues ranging from metal theft to safety, plastics recycling and government relations since 1997.

Mr. Miller is a lawyer and engineer by training and background, having received his JD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his MSCE at MIT. Prior to joining SMM, Mr. Miller was regional counsel and a member of the mediation and brownfields teams for a D.C.-based non-profit organization focused on settling large scale Superfund disputes. Prior to that, Mr. Miller was an attorney with a D.C.-based environmental law firm, and, previously, an environmental consultant and civil engineer.
