Washington, DC –The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Voice of the Recycling Industry™, announced the winners of its third annual Vehicle Safety Awards recognizing top members for outstanding commitment to the safety of employees and the general public as evidenced by progressive and effective fleet safety programs. The awards come in two categories: Best Fleet Award and Pacesetter Award.
“There are more than 16,000 trucks transporting scrap in the United States, and making sure each exceeds all safety standards can be a difficult task, let along an entire fleet. As an industry we put a strong emphasis on transportation safety to guarantee that all vehicles are safe from the moment the engine clicks on to when it is shut off,” said Commodor Hall, ISRI’s transportation safety manager. “Through rigorous driver training, accident prevention, and vehicle maintenance programs these award-winning companies are ensuring that America’s roads are safe for all motorists.”
Based on class size, the Best Fleet Award is presented to the ReMA member with the lowest vehicle accident rate, and the lowest U.S. Department of Transportation recordable accident rate in 2014. The Pacesetter Award, also based on class, is granted to the ReMA member using the same criteria as the Best Fleet Award but covering a three-year period, in this case January 1, 2012 – December 31, 2014.
