ReMA Launches New Tool Connecting Recyclers with Congress

(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has launched a new website, ISRIadvocacy.org, designed to engage, inform, and mobilize recycling grassroots so they can take action on issues important to the industry. The site allows recyclers to locate state and federal elected officials and correspond with them on legislation and other policy matters.

“As the voice of the recycling industry, ReMA wants to make sure our members and others in the recycling community are heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill and every state capital in the country,” said Scott Horne, vice president of government relations for ISRI. “The new advocacy site provides all the tools and resources for recyclers to become engaged citizens and voice their position on policy matters that impact how they run their business. On issues ranging from taxes to transportation, the site easily allows them to connect with lawmakers. It also allows ReMA to quickly mobilize its advocates if action is about to be taken in Congress and we need our members to act.”

After registering as an advocate on the site, users can look up their state and federal officials. There is the ability to take action on key issues at both the state and federal levels using sample letters provided by ISRI. Current issues that members can take action on include:

  • Support the Ports Transparency Act;
  • Tell Congress to reauthorize the Ex-Im Bank; and
  • Pass the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act 2015.

In addition, advocates can share their stories about why and how they got involved in an issue and any successes they have had reaching out to policy makers. The site also connects to information on ISRI’s key issues, state policy resources, the Recycling Caucus, and ReMA PAC.

ISRIAdvocacy.org is part of an expanded outreach effort by ReMA to connect its members with lawmakers. Earlier this year the organization launched a grassroots training program for Industry Advocates. More programs and features will be launched in the coming months.
