Competition aims to raise awareness of role of recycling in fight against climate change
(Washington, DC) — The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) and JASON Learning partnered to announce their annual recycling video and poster contest aimed to build awareness about the value of recycling, and the essential benefits of the industry. The theme for this year’s contest is “Recycling for Sustainability: Making A Difference to Our Climate.”
Students are asked to create a public service announcement that raises awareness around recycling, how recycling can reduce the impact of climate change in their local community, and ensuring earth’s resources are available for future generations. Participants will explore the relationship between recycling and climate change and show how recycling is the first step in making a difference. The contest is open to all students living in the United States and Canada and enrolled in grades K-12 during the 2021-22 school year. One grand prize poster and video will be selected from the three grade bands: K-4, 5-8, and 9-12.
“Equipping tomorrow’s workforce of recycling industry professionals begins today,” said Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “This contest provides us with an opportunity to not only engage students in thinking of the recycling industry as a future career path, but also understanding the numerous ways recycling keeps our environment and its vital natural resources protected and preserved for future generations.”
“This is an incredible opportunity for students to learn more about recycling, its importance, and the ways that we can help fight climate change through simple recycling actions,” said Eleanor Smalley, president and CEO of JASON Learning.
Entries must be submitted by Friday, December 17, 2021. The grand prize winners will receive a trip to Las Vegas with a parent or guardian to participate in ISRI’s 2022 Annual Convention and Exposition. This marks the eighth year ReMA and JASON Learning have teamed up on an art contest.
Additional information about the contest, including all rules, tips, and how to enter, can be found online.
