ISRI’s Board of Directors will consider the following proposed changes to the Guidelines for Recycled Plastic that were approved by the ReMA Plastics Division on Sept. 20, 2023 at its upcoming Fall Board Meeting in Denver, Colorado on Oct. 18, 2023:

Revised Specifications

Specification: PP Small Rigid Plastic
Specification: Mixed Small Rigid Plastic
Specification: Mixed Bulky Rigid Plastic

The full Board may choose to adopt, amend, or reject the recommendations of the Division or table them pending further review. More information about the rules governing the procedures from the addition, amendment, or withdrawal of ISRI’s Specifications can be found in the ReMA Specifications. To submit comments, recommendations, or questions please contact ReMA Chief Economist Joe Pickard (jpickard@isri.org) or ReMA Senior Economist Bret Biggers (bbiggers@isri.org). If adopted or amended, there will be an open comment period for 30 days following the vote by the Board.

These three proposed revisions combine nine expecting specifications to reflect current trading in the marketplace. ReMA would like to thank the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) for contributing their expertise in the development of these revisions.

For more than 100 years, the ReMA specifications have helped promote consistency and quality in the trade of recycled materials in the U.S. and around the world. Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration this invaluable resource is accessible online to anyone at any time.

Specifications are reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure they meet the demands of the domestic and global marketplace. Any individual, organization, or company can file a request for additions, changes, or deletions to the specifications. ReMA will continue to update the specifications as the flow of recycled materials evolves with the introduction of new products into the supply chain. The ReMA Specifications website includes definitions of general terms and guidelines for recycled material transactions, improved options for user input, faster response times and requests tracking.
