Throughout January and February, several legislators have joined ReMA members and the Florida Recyclers Association (FRA) for tours of recycled materials facilities in preparation for the Florida State Legislature’s session on March 4.
FRA lobbyist and Magill Strategies President, Jim Magill, has played a key role in coordinating these tours. ReMA members John Bianculli and Sean Peloquin from Trademark Metals Recycling (TMR) hosted Representative Myers facility. These tours provide legislators firsthand insight into the recycling process and the technologies that go into each company facility and allow policy makers to make more informed decisions during their state session.

Magill, who has been lobbying for FRA since 2007, has maintained records for all legislators who have toured recycling facilities and their locations. So far, 80 of Florida’s 160 current legislators have participated in facility tours during their time in office. This information is visually highlighted on the Florida map below, which Magill has been tracking.
In addition to facility tours, several legislators regularly attend FRA meetings, including past participants like Representatives Bernie Jacques and Sam Greco. Throughout 2025, FRA and ReMA members will focus on several key bills, particularly those related to battery EPR, synthetic turf SB 712, and SB 200, which is related to implementing a waste reduction and recycling plan.

SB 712 would prevent local governments from prohibiting property owners from installing synthetic turf. SB 200 would require the Department of Environmental Protection to implement a comprehensive waste reduction and recycling plan by July 1, 2026. Additionally, Magill is monitoring discussions on small and medium-format battery EPR proposals, as well as vehicle propulsion battery policies.
As Florida advances through its legislative session, ReMA staff remains committed to monitoring bills and regulations and will keep members updated accordingly.
